STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
Expectations of our Students
We strive every day to build character in our students, both on and off the stage, and we want to deliver the very best learning experience for all of our students and young performers. We have the following expectations to make this possible.
Our Students Will:
Show Respect for Others: Students will respect the rights and feelings of the other participants. Fighting, bullying, name calling, intimidations, bigotry of any kind, inappropriate language or any other form of emotional or physical abuse or unwanted contact directed to one another, Directors, Instructors, Board Members, or Volunteers will not be tolerated.
Maintain Good Behavior and Focus: Students are expected to pay attention to and follow the Directors/Production Manager/Instructors so that they can get the most out of their time at ROYAL. Disruptive, distracting, or problematic behavior that affects the learning environment will not be tolerated. Cell phones and other electronic devices are not permitted during rehearsals, classes, or performances, except during breaks.
Respect our Theatre: Students will respect the studio, facilities, performance location, costumes, props, sets, and all ROYAL Theatre property. No food will be allowed in the studio. We encourage you to bring a water bottled labeled with your name to every rehearsal. Students will pick up after themselves and work to keep the theatre facilities clean.
Maintain a Drug-Free and Weapon-Free Environment: The use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or weapons of any kind are not permitted at any ROYAL Theatre affiliated activity.
Not Engage in Inappropriate Behavior: Students are expected to act appropriately while involved in any ROYAL Theatre activity. No unprofessional or suggestive conduct will be tolerated.
Always be on Time: Students are expected to arrive on time and ready to get to work for rehearsals, classes, and performances.
Not Leave Unless Dismissed: Students are not to leave the studio or theatre during a class, rehearsal, or show unless excused or dismissed by a Director/Production Manager/Instructor.
Dress Appropriately: Students are expected to dress appropriately for all rehearsals and classes. Items with provocative, offensive, violent or drug-related pictures/slogans (including alcohol or tobacco products) will not be permitted. Appropriate footwear is expected at all times. No sandals, flip flops, boots, or bare feet will be allowed, unless part of a costume. Students should wear suitable shoes for movement such as jazz shoes, character shoes, or sneakers.
Never Discriminate: Discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, gender/gender identity, national origin, disability, or on any other basis prohibited by law, is never allowed.
Abide by the Three Strike Rule: Students breaking any of the Code of Conduct rules will have the following disciplinary actions:
- First Instance: Student will be given a verbal warning by the Director/Production Manager/Instructor.
- Second Instance: Student will be given a verbal warning, and parent/guardian will be contacted.
- Third instance: Student will be dismissed permanently from the class, rehearsal, or show.
NOTE: Any student who believes that he or she has observed or has experienced prohibited behaviors should report these immediately to a Director/Production Manager/Instructor.
ROYAL Theatre Company will:
- Create a positive and safe environment that will encourage the highest artistic standards to be achieved and maintained
- Establish and promote a supportive and family-oriented atmosphere where all are treated with respect, fairness, kindness, and in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct
- Provide a solid foundation for the creativity, artistic skills development, fun, and excellence which is the cornerstone of all ROYAL Theatre productions and activities
The Student will:
- Do his/her best at all times
- Learn his/her lines, lyrics, choreography, and blocking by the date(s) set
- Abide by the Student Code of Conduct
- Respect other people and their property and environments
- Ensure prompt and regular attendance at classes, rehearsals, and performances
- Be supportive of others, have fun, and help others to have fun!
